Praise for the Circle Unbroken DVD!
Sandra,
Your wonderful CD arrived yesterday. I must tell you that it
is truly a magical piece of art that combines the best of three
arts: literature, water colors, and music. I have
enjoyed it three times now and each time, I am more amazed at the
masterful way the three arts are woven together. This should
be in all of our school libraries!
I wish you every success as you reach classrooms with such profound
content. Thank you so much for sharing your magnum opus!
Keep walkin' in the sunshine and passin' it along!

There are a
number of "stars" in this short film of Margot Theis Raven's
children's tale: Rachel Dowling's compassionate reading, E.B.
Lewis's evocative watercolors, the moving (and witty) score by
William Grant Still performed with real sensitivity by a string
quartet, and especially the touching, haunting, soul-stirring
words of Margot Theis Raven herself. The "circle unbroken"
stands for the sweetgrass baskets themselves, but also for the
bonds of tradition and family and community and hope across
oceans and across generations even under the conditions of
enslavement, dehumanization, and war. Great for both children
and adults.
